To the Hiring Committee:

I am writing to express my interest in the position of Communications Manager I (3557) at Michigan State University’s Office of the Executive Vice President for Administrative Services. As a graduate from Lake Forest College with a B.A. in Communications and work experience in Michigan State University’s College of Education, I have spent the past couple of years refining my skills as a communications manager, graphic designer, and social media manager. I feel that my experience makes me a good fit for this position.
 
Currently, I am working as a program assistant for the Office of K-12 Outreach in the College of Education at Michigan State University. In this position I have gained extensive experience managing multiple communication projects for K-12 events using programs such as Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. I have also spent time implementing accessibility standards to all K-12 websites using various content management systems. I worked as part of a technology team to film Coaching 101 video segments; including two hour long online orientations, multiple interviews and a promotional piece for the Michigan Department of Education.
 
In addition, I spent time working as the Social Media Manager for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, a Tier I Junior A hockey team and member of the United States Hockey League. As such, I was responsible for running and maintaining all aspects of social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest). These interactions allowed me to expand my experience in developing marketing tools for a wide audience, designing marketing graphics, and video production.  
 
I am currently earning my Master’s degree in Educational Technology from Michigan State University. In this program my focus is not on teaching, but rather how to use technology to communicate content. I will graduate in August 2016.
